Would be my words if I entered one of Yayoi Kusama’s infinity mirrored rooms! The 84 year old Japanese artist, who has a fascination with polka dots also has a fascination with endless spaces. She currently has an exhibition poetry foundation at the David Zwirner Gallery in New York called ‘I Who Have Arrived In Heaven’ with two ‘Infinity Mirrored Rooms’ called ‘The Souls of Millions of Light Years Away’ and ‘Love is Calling’ .
When I saw a few pictures of the exhibit on Instagram I was blown away by it. Even though this room is just lights and mirrors, it creates something magical. The other room contains polka dotted colored tentacles. You can only visit the rooms for 40 seconds, because of the queues.
Miss Kusama has set up several other mirrored rooms. Her first Infinity Mirror Room Phalli s Field , that was created in 1965, is now permanently shown in the entrance area of the Dutch Boijmans van Beuningen Museum in Rotterdam. poetry foundation
She previously had an infinity mirrored room in 2002 called ‘Fireflies on the Water’ at The Whitney in New York and the Infinity Mirrored Room Filled with the Brilliance of Life at the Tate Modern in London in 2012.
If you want to see the exhibit at the David Zwirner Gallery, which also displays 27 paintings by the artist, you have until the 21st of December this year! So go! Wish I was able to go, but I am only crossing my fingers that Miss Kusama exhibits with an infinity room filled with lights here in The Netherlands! Or find out where she has exhibitions in the future here. I am as from now saving for my own infinity mirrored walk-in closet room..thing.
By the way, you might also know Yayoi Kusama from her collection at Louis Vuitton. When I was in London last year with my friend Manouk, we visited the London Louis Vuitton store in New Bond Street and the window display was filled with polka dotted poetry foundation tentacles and a real life looking Yayoi Kusama wax figure.
